ACR gets into trucking

AIRLINE CARGO RESOURCES and International Road Feeder Services (IRFS) have launched a joint trucking service, according to ACR's operations director, Simon Lott. The service is offering two-way transport between Johannesburg and the two port cities of Durban and Cape Town. Aimed at import, export and domestic cargo, the road fleet consists of 34 vehicles, Lott told FTW, with the 30-ton capacity trailers fitted with roller and racking systems for both unitary and loose-load cargoes. Each is also fitted with refrigeration units for perishable cargo transport. All the vehicles are fitted with satellite tracking and transit insurance of R5-million per load is available. Bonded handling facilities are available in each of the centres, he added, and ad hoc and abnormal loads can also be arranged.
