Fleet Controller

Are you looking to build a long term career in fleet operations with a growing transport company? Our client is seeking a junior Fleet Controller to join their Meyerton branch and work alongside an experienced Fleet Operator, with the opportunity to develop into a fully-fledged Fleet Controller over time.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who has some exposure to fleet operations or road transport and is eager to learn in a fast-paced environment.

Duties:

• Assist with the day-to-day management of a fleet of approximately 25 trucks.
• Establishing efficient routes and transportation schedules.
• Vehicle and driver tracking and monitoring.
• Vehicle scheduling, planning and client liaising.
• Coordinating drivers and on-site general workers.
• Fuel consumption management and compliance.
• Fuel consumption management and compliance.
• Ensuring compliance with service levels and resolving fleet breakdowns.
• Managing vehicle licensure, registration and roadworthiness.
• Ensuring all fleet members have proper licensure and up-to-date training.
• Monitoring drivers to ensure adherence to schedules and proper driving practices.
• Sourcing, hiring and training new drivers.
• Conducting driver inductions.
• Providing budget, schedule, maintenance and fleet progress reports to management.
• Developing methods to decrease cost and improve efficiency.
• Identifying and securing new and more profitable freight opportunities to maximise fleet utilisation and revenue.
• Incident and claim management and reporting.
• Ensuring necessary disciplinary action is taken against drivers where required.
• Documentation management (PODs and queries).
• Ensuring all vehicles meet required company standards and updating the vehicle inspection sheet.
• Managing the wash bay and vehicle cleanliness.
• Meeting monthly targets set by management.
• Support the senior Fleet Operator with all operational requirements.

Requirements:

• Minimum 1-3 years' experience in a similar role. 
• Exposure to flat decks, tautliners, interlink trailers or general road freight.
• Fluent in both English and Afrikaans.
• A willingness to work overtime and participate in a standby roster.

Fleet:

• Approximately 25 trucks.
• Mercedes-Benz, Volvo and Scania fleet.
• Flat decks, tautliners and interlink trailers.
• New car carriers recently added to the fleet.

Working Hours: Standard office hours with overtime on a rotational basis.
