The new Liverpool2 container terminal is to be equipped with a fleet of ‘mega’ container cranes from the same manufacturer that has recently supplied double-lift ship-to-shore (STS) cranes to the Port of Durban. Port Finance International has reported that Peel Ports has signed up a R1.7 billion deal with Shanghai-based manufacturer Zhenhua Heavy Industries Co (ZPMC) to equip the terminal. According to Port Technology, ZPMC will supply five STS megamax quay cranes and 12 cantilever rail-mounted gantry cranes (CRMGs) for the first phase of Liverpool2’s development. A further three STS cranes and 10 CRMGs will be delivered to the terminal for the second phase.
