Complaints by cross-border road transporters about bottlenecks, delays and random fees charged at the CONDEP container depot in Zimbabwe have not gone unnoticed. According to transporters, available infrastructure at Beitbridge is not suitable for the offloading of frozen and/or perishable goods.
Deputy Minister of Transport, Sindisiwe Chikunga, said the Cross-Border Road Transport Agency had been engaging with Zimbabwean authorities on these issues. Zimbabwe had initiated an exercise in September last year to review and streamline processes and fees at CONDEP, as well as on the Zimbabwean side of the Beitbridge border post, she added.
The outcome of this will be communicated upon completion.
