Construction of new weighbridges along strategic mining routes is set to begin this week, according to the deputy general manager for the Minerals Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe (MMCZ).
He said in a statement that the weighbridges would be established along the Harare-Beitbridge, Harare-Chirundu, Harare-Mutare and Gweru-Zvishavane roads, noting that plans were also under way to construct weighbridges at certain railway lines, targeting goods exported through the railway system.
"We are aware that some of our commodities are exiting Zimbabwe without being properly weighed, leading to non-compliance when they get to the ports, mainly because the current weighbridges are located far from the mining regions,” he said.
