Maize farmers in the Kaoma District in Zambia have received 180 litres of pesticide to combat the spread of army worm.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture in the District of Western Province, Zambia, “over 100 famers have their fields severely invaded by the lethal army worms”.
District Agriculture Coordinator (Daco) Christabel Kakumbi said a distribution exercise was under way and some of the affected farmers had started applying the chemicals in their maize fields.
“However, the chemicals received might not be enough to cater for all the farmers in the district. We urge farmers to only use the recommended pesticide if they want a good yield,” Kakumbi said. – Zoë van Rooyen
