Population: 12 million
Currency: Zambian kwacha
Capital: Lusaka
Ethnic groups: More than 70, the largest being
Bemba, Nyanja, Lozi, Ngoni and
Tonga
Language: Virtually everyone speaks English,
plus various tribal languages
Religion: 65% Christian, 30% Islam
Climate: Tropical (in FTW’s experience
very similar to the South African
bushveld)
Rainfall: May to September is dry and
relatively cool, September
to November is dry and hot,
November to April it rains.
Industry: Tourism, mining and production of
agricultural produce
