Cargo Connection grows volumes DESIGNED TO strengthen its business base, Cargo Connection is currently busy developing its three client airlines, according to company executive, Sheena Arnold. One focus is on Egyptair, which has a thriving volume of cargoes being fed into its Cairo home-base from its worldwide network – and finally destined for Johannesburg. “Looking at outgoing cargo,” said Arnold, “we have also had development plans, and we’ve got quite a lot of relief cargo, spares and steel bound for Khartoum in the Sudan, for example.” Air Zimbabwe has also been a development target – and, with its wide-body Boeing 767s now flying twice-weekly, Cargo Connection has been able to build up cargo volumes on the Johannesburg-Harare air route. “It’s a very broad range of airfreight,” said Arnold, “like medical goods, computers, and a wide spread of mining and motor vehicle spares.” The GSA also has a spotlight on the Yemen Airlines’ weekly Sunday flight from Johannesburg to Moroni in the Comores. “In this case,” said Arnold, “we’re looking mostly at regular perishable shipments, spares and the like. “But we’ve also had this supported by cargoes flying from Johannesburg to Sanaa in the Yemen where a recent highlight has been quite a lot of cargo – like ballot boxes and papers – exported to Yemen for the recent elections.”
