July launch for accreditation procedures THE ROAD freight chamber of TETA (Transport Education Training Authority) is due to launch its accreditation procedure to potential course providers in July. A round-the-country series of workshops in each of the main centres is planned - Gauteng on July 10th; Durban on the 11th; Port Elizabeth on the 24th; and Cape Town on the 25th. At these, according to the chamber's Sizakele Baloyi, the chamber is intending to publicise the accreditation to all the providers in the road freight industry, and to SMMEs (small and medium sized enterprises), who cover training for the Code 14 driver's licence. "We've got unit standards for the Professional Driving course," she said, "and we need to explain exactly what the accreditation is all about, and how it benefits the training service providers." As a precursor to the workshops, the chamber has sent the accreditation documents to all the providers on its list. "What we need to do now," said Baloyi, "is to go to companies, and find out what courses they are offering. "We then need to examine the course content and material, and ascertain whether we can accredit these courses."
