Word of mouth creates new opportunities

Walvis Bay-based KLD Ships Agency has recently expanded into project management after being recommended by a client following the services provided as a ships agency. “We were the local logistics controller for a German-based freight forwarder that brought in giant equipment on a chartered vessel, followed by various other shipments on scheduled vessels for the same project,” says managing member Katja Glöditzsch. KLD was able to show that its team and systems were able to handle the logistics, which in some ways were less complex than a crew change of 200 people for an oil rig. “That’s 200 people off and 200 people on,” says Glöditzsch. “This has opened up another segment of the market for KLD and has led to other enquiries from international operators,” she says.
