THE DEATH by shooting of Fresh Produce Terminals' Michael Verreynne two months ago took a dramatic twist last week when his wife was charged with his murder.
Beryl Verreynne, aged 50, was arrested at her home in La Rochelle near Cape Town last Thursday and appeared in the Bellville Magistrate's Court the following day. The case was remanded till August 29 for further investigation. She was released on bail of R1 000.
An executive with Capespan subsidiary FPT in Cape Town - he held the position of planning and logistics manager - Verreyne, 37, was found dead by a family member in the jacuzzi at his home, shot three time in the chest.
It was initially suspected he had been the victim of a robbery but his white bakkie, apparently taken at the time
of the crime, was found later at a
nearby church.
Described by FPT m.d. Ronnie Kingwill as a "highly respected" member of the export fruit community, Verreynne had planned on joining GoReefers in the new position of manager for the Western Cape but had a change of heart.
