Western Cape tourism, trade and investment promotion agency Wesgro signed seven export and outward foreign direct investment (OFDI) deals during a trade and investment mission to Namibia.
According to a statement released on Friday, these deals represent a total value of R60 million and will result in the creation of 43 jobs in South Africa and 23 in Namibia over the next five years.
A Wesgro spokesperson said that 20 Western Cape businesses had met with over 150 Namibian companies during the mission which was undertaken to boost trade between Namibia and the Western Cape.
Export trade deals stemming from the mission were valued at R32.5 million and OFDI deals at R28 million.
“The Western Cape exported goods to Namibia valued at US$834 million in 2016 while imported goods were valued at US$171 million,” added the spokesperson.
