On 09 June 2026, the World Customs Organization (WCO) advised that a total of 178 alumni from around the world had attended the online meeting on 01 June 2026, reconnecting with the fellowship community to exchange experiences and strengthen professional networks. In line with the WCO’s 2026 theme, alumni contributions to Customs’ protective mandate were showcased. Mentorship, a newly introduced feature of the programme, was highlighted as a key example of continued engagement and a major driver of its lasting impact.
The Virtual Fellowship Programme (FP) Alumni Meeting brought together 178 alumni from across the globe, creating a dynamic platform to reconnect, share experiences and expertise, and reinforce professional networks within the Customs community.
The first thematic session, aligned with the WCO’s 2026 theme, “Customs protecting society through vigilance and commitment”, explored how the programme’s alumni contribute to Customs’ protective mandate, emphasising how the WCO works with its member Customs administrations to build skills and capacity to better serve society.
Participants also gained insights into key WCO initiatives led by the Enforcement Policy and Supply Chain Integrity Units. A highlight of the session was the inspiring presentation by Mali, which shared its achievements in combating the illicit trade in medicines and reflected on its professional journey since completing the programme in 2021.
Throughout the meeting, alumni reflected on the significant role the Fellowship Programme has played in shaping their careers and strengthening their capacity as agents of change. Discussions highlighted how alumni continue to lead modernisation, innovation and reform within their respective administrations. Testimonials from six alumni from Bangladesh, Brazil, Chile, Kenya, Moldova and Nigeria illustrated the programme’s lasting impact on both institutional development and individual professional growth.
The meeting also underscored the importance of sustained engagement beyond the programme’s duration, with particular emphasis on the success of the recently introduced mentorship initiative. Participants were encouraged to strengthen further connections within the global alumni network, where collaboration and knowledge exchange continue to drive professional development and amplify impact across the Customs community.
