Burundi is East Africa’s most corrupt country for the second year in a row, according to a Transparency International (TI) survey.
It also condemned the region’s police, revenue authorities and the judiciary as the worst bribery-prone offenders.
Rwanda was ranked least corrupt in the five-member East African Community (EAC) trade bloc.
According to figures from International Business Times, Burundi had a bribery prevalence rate of 37.9%, from 36.7%. Not much better were Uganda with a rate of 33.9% from 33% last year, and Tanzania’s 31.6% from 28.6% previously.
The two best were Kenya, 28.8% down from 31.9%, and star of the show, Rwanda, with a fall to 5.1% from 6.6%.
