Walvis airport set for R250m facelift

KEVIN MAYHEW THE $N250m (R250m) upgrade of the Walvis Bay Airport will vastly improve its service and infrastructure. According to a spokesperson for the Namibian Airports Company, there will be a new fire station, an independent electricity supply for guaranteed 24-hour operation, increased capacity for fuel storage as well as extended shifts for receiving and dispatching passengers and cargoes. The runways will also be fitted with 3C lights which will make them effective in mist and fog that is common at Walvis Bay in the early morning – the anticipated busiest period for international flights.. These improvements are being undertaken as phase two of the overall development.
