Western Cape manufacturer, Fynbos Fine Foods, has signed a lucrative deal with a Russian company that owns a chain of high-end supermarkets. This will see their products exported to Russia for two years.

The Department of Trade and Industry made the announcement yesterday when 25 business people returned to South Africa after participating in the World Food Moscow trade fair.

“We have given one company exclusivity in Russia to sell and distribute our products in their high-end supermarkets,” said Fynbos Fine Foods owner, Julian Abramson. “They will supply other stores [and] we are also negotiating with them to supply stores in other parts of Russia in order to grow our market.”

Fynbos Fine Foods manufactures sauces, seasonings, jams and pickles in its factory in Malmesbury – where 50 full-time workers are employed – and currently exports to around 12 countries.

According to the dti, they are one of the few manufacturers that produce bottled chilli sauce without preservatives which have a shelf-life of two years.

“That basically puts us into a niche category and that is why we are getting into these supermarket stores in other countries,” added Abramson.
