VOLKSWAGEN South Africa retained its position as the top exporter of vehicles on the African continent with a total vehicle export market share of 45% last year.
The company exported 30 000 vehicles - mainly Golf 4s to the European Union countries - including Spain, Italy, The Netherlands, United Kingdom, Germany and Austria.
Next on the list was BMW with exports of 23 455 passenger vehicles. VW also exported a limited number of vehicles to Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Malawi - including 43 light commercials - out of the overall total of 65 414 passenger and commercial vehicles exported from South Africa.
