VW focuses on local content to meet APDP challenge

Suppliers to Volkswagen South Africa are either moving closer or setting up shop in a supplier park established next to the company’s Uitenhage manufacturing plant. According to Volkswagen, approximately R1-billion will be invested in the new facilities by the middle of next year. Six new component supplier factories are already under construction in the Uitenhage area. VWSA managing director David Powels says the investments are part of the company’s plan to meet the “challenge” presented by the new Automotive Production Development Plan (APDP), which replaces the MIDP.
