Unions stand firm on concessioning

Alan Peat NO AGREEMENT on concessioning has yet been reached with the unions, according to Jane Barrett, policy officer of the SA Transport and Allied Workers Union (Satawu). “We are still waiting for a meeting with the port restructuring committee (PRC) to be able to sign off the report,” she said. In this, the parties have agreed not to concessioning as it is currently understood by the private sector, but a “process at enterprise level”. Basically, Barrett added, referring the issue of ownership to include Sapo management in the discussions. If full privatisation went ahead outside this agreed basis, Satawu would immediately be in dispute as this would not comply with the National Framework Agreement (NFA).
