Unicooler makes its entry for pharmaceutical products

LUFTHANSA CARGO has introduced a new “heat & cool” container for the transport of temperature-sensitive products. Launched on April 1, the “Unicooler” was developed in close cooperation with the pharmaceutical industry. It is specially designed for goods that require a constant temperature during transportation, such as vaccines, plasmas, proteins and biotechnological material. The technology is based on the principle of heat exchange, Bernhard Kindelbacher, senior vice president network & product management, explained. “As many as six ventilators ensure that the air is in permanent circulation. The Unicooler is filled with dry ice and uses an electrical heating system powered by large, rechargeable batteries to ensure that the right temperature is maintained even during extreme weather conditions in summer or winter.” The container is being introduced initially at 26 pilot stations. While South Africa has not yet been included, market feedback will decide when and whether the product is introduced locally.
