A RESEARCH initiative designed to establish productivity benchmarks in the road haulage industry kicks off later this month. The National Truck Test, which has for the first year been endorsed by the Department of Transport, will be held on May 24-25. Truck loads and configurations, all 100% legal, will travel from Durban to Johannesburg and back on the N3 as part of the initiative. “The purpose of the National Truck Test SA is to establish real benchmarks and the true potential within owners’ fleets,” a spokesman told FTW. All truck manufacturers have been invited to participate. The trucks with their trailers and loads, as well as drivers and test results, will be on display at Truck-Ex, a road transport exhibition to be held in the Durban Exhibition Centre from the May 26- 28. Organisers are Exhibitions for Africa (formally Reed Exhibitions).
