'Truck ban still on the cards'

THE PEAK-HOUR truck ban on the Gauteng freeway system is still very much on the cards, according to Herman Lemmer, head of the Road Freight Association (RFA). But the immediacy has diminished, and gives breathing space for thought, he added. "What is positive," Lemmer told FTW, "is that we've ironed out the process. "It now allows us all Ð both the local government and the private sector transport industry Ð the time to gather and analyse information before anything precipitous is done." The trucking industry's concern has been heightened, and they intend to be involved in all future discussions and procedures, he added.
