THE COST of transport was one of the main factors which led the official inflation rate to increase to 7.8% in February 2001 from 7,1% in January 2001.
This was because of a 22% increase in the petrol price over the year. Other increases were in housing, food, medical care, health expenses, household operation and education, said Annette Myburgh, chief director of economic statistics and surveys and national accounts of Statistics South Africa.
