Today saw the launch by Transnet Pipelines of a new National Operating Centre (NOC) in Pinetown, Durban that will serve as a nerve centre for the division which previously operated from different platforms.

The new centre will function as a security hub and a planning centre.

As a contingency measure, it has a dedicated back-up power supply network to ensure that operations run smoothly in case of power supply challenges.

According to Transnet Group chief executive, Siyabonga Gama, the master control room will now have a visual of the Transnet New Multi-Product Pipeline (NMPP) facilities and functions.

Operators in the master control room will be able to track the NMPPs activities through high-tech visuals and controls.

NMPP is the company’s 555km and 24-inch trunk–line which is responsible for transporting diesel and fuel from Durban to Johannesburg.
