Transnet MDS forges ahead

Despite serious local and
global economic woes no
major projects planned
under
Transnet’s
market
demand
strategy
(MDS)
are to be
changed
at this
stage,
according
to
Transnet’s
group
executive
for
planning & sustainability,
Mark Gregg-Macdonald.
“We’ve been looking
at planning for the new
financial year of 2016/17,”
said Gregg-Macdonald,
“and have to issue our
new corporate plan by
the end of this month
(February).
“But no significant
changes are planned.”
However, for smaller
projects, it may be a
different story.
He pointed out that the
R300-
billion
MDS
shouldn’t
be seen
as a deep
pool of
capital
into
which
everybody
can just
dip their
hands
as they
please. “It
is, as its name suggests,
very much marketrelated,”
he added.
Under this, Transnet
projects currently under
way will not be changed.
“But,” said Gregg-
Macdonald, “some in the
planning stage will still be
there, but may be reduced
or altered.”
