THE OPENING of Transnet’s new multi-million rand fruit cooling facility in the port of Cape Town, which has been shrouded in parastatal secrecy, has been delayed for reasons inexplicable. Andries van der Merwe, MD of terminal operators Access Shipping, who was tasked by Transnet to source the client base and undertake staff training for the new enterprise, told FTW last week the opening had been ‘slightly delayed”. The new launch date is now ‘probably’ some time in June in order to finish off the facility at MPT’s E-berth, among other reasons.
