A FIVE-MAN delegation representing the Walvis Bay Corridor Group (WBCG) has taken its business drive abroad and is currently promoting the corridor in Germany to various institutions as well as the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Backing the promotional team are a number of shipping line representatives. Their two-hour presentation to the German Chamber in Berlin is the focal point of the tour, but they have also been booked for a three-hour presentation to the powerful Bremen Chamber of Commerce in that seaside city. In Hamburg they will address the Afrika-Verein, the Africa Association, which is the business organisation for German companies with interests in African countries. Their visit will end with a two-hour presentation to interested groups at the IHK Academy in Munich. The delegation comprises Namport chief executive Wessie Wessels, Namport's marketing manager Jerome Mouton, chairman of the Namibian Association of Freight Forwarders Norbert Liebich, vice chairman Heino Herrlich and the corridor group's business development executive Frank Gschwender. They will also call on the ports of Bremerhaven and Hamburg. "It's part of our proactive approach to promote the use of both the port of Walvis Bay and the corridor," says Gschwender. "Our presentations have been specifically designed to increase awareness of recent port developments, the operational efficiency of the port of Walvis Bay, the opportunity the corridor offers as the emerging west coast trade route into central and South Africa, and the potential benefits for the industry, corridor stakeholders and the region in general."
