The cash-strapped Zambian government has announced plans to set up around 40 road tolling stations around the country following the success of its first two sites at Manyumbi on the LusakaNdola route and Kafulafuta on the same road. The Manyumbi site is located between Kabwe and Kapiri-Mposhi, while the Kafulafuta toll site is between Kapiri-Mposhi and Ndola. Opened as pilot sites in 2016, the toll booths collected K1.1 billion (R1.3bn) between November 2017 and September 2018. Revenues for the first quarter of 2019 were K50 million (R58 million) ahead of budget at K226m (R262m), according to the National Road Fund Agency (NRFA). According to NRFA business manager for road tolling, Daniel Mtonga, 80% of the revenue is collected from foreign motorists, while 20% is from Zambians.
