AT THE beginning of the month, CMA CGM officially became the world’s third largest container shipping company when it completed its acquisition of the French shipping group Delmas. According to information released to FTW by Pam Yerushalmy, the line’s GM in SA, the fact that Delmas is recognised as an African specialist allows the group to offer a complete range of services - particularly on north-south routes where it was less developed. Quoting Alain Wils, new President of Delmas, she added: “With the support of subsidiaries - mainly ANL, MacAndrews and Delmas - CMA CGM is now able to offer to its customers complete geographical coverage.” Although the management of Delmas remains in Le Havre, with the confirmation of the takeover they will automatically benefit from CMA CGM group synergies – especially in container logistics, purchasing power and customer services.
