TFR – latest update

The following statement has just been received from Transnet Freight Rail (TFR) about the ongoing community unrest being experienced in various parts of the country and the impact it has had on TFR’s service delivery.

In respect of the Natcor network: Durban to Pietermaritzburg:

  • Line still obstructed in the Klaarwater section. (trolleys, logs and goods obstructing the tracks).
  • Several community members crossing the rail lines in the section.
  • Security still a concern in the area, however TFR Security, SANDF and SAPS have been deployed for support.
  • Once section has been cleared the TFR rail trolley will continue to inspect the line up to Pietermaritzburg to declare it safe for the passing of trains from Pietermaritzburg to Ladysmith (Danskraal).
  • Single line working between Frere/Enersdale – ETR no 2 line planned for 19:00 tonight.
  • Rest of the section declared safe for the running of trains Ladysmith (Danskraal) to the Reef.
  • Train service normal and all trains planned for the Reef have been cleared.
  • Side-on collision at Meyerton this morning will not have an impact on trains to/from the Reef.
  • Please take note that the anticipated opening of the Natcor line between Durban at Pietermaritzburg is 18:00 this evening provided that we don’t have any further disruption.

The TFR tribunal met at 16:00 and an update will follow.
