Talks continue over Mutare container park

Martin Rushmere
DISCUSSIONS AND negotiations are continuing over the establishment of a second container park as well as a possible dry port at Mutare, Zimbabwe's gateway to Mozambique.
Promoters and potential investors are undecided about who should be involved and the form the park should take. The difficulty is that some people are pushing for a dry port first, said one of those involved, which most people feel is unnecessary and will involve more time and expense for shippers, as goods from Harare are pre-cleared.
One point on which every one agrees is that the container park at GMS in the town is far too small, with boxes now having to be stored in the street.
