WITH THE introduction of Part 108 due for the beginning of February, handling specialist Swissport will comply with all the legislation and will be a registered cargo agent, said MD Colin Baldwin. “Indeed, we had the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) briefing our senior staff last week on the path to Part 108,” he said. Swissport already has some X-ray equipment. Said Baldwin: “Depending on the CAA’s advice, we will decide whether it is financially viable to purchase more equipment. “Our decision will, of course, be biased by the fact that – if our major multinational companies regulate themselves under Part 108 – over 80% of our outgoing freight will be covered.”
