MCEBISI JONAS, who was suspended from his position as chief executive of the Eastern Cape Development Corporation (ECDC) a month ago, has been reinstated by the Grahamstown High Court.
The Court’s ruling, handed down last Friday, overrules the suspension from duty placed on Jonas by provincial Economic Affairs MEC Andre de Wet, who sacked the entire ECDC board of directors at the same time.
Now Jonas can return to office while De Wet, who reinstated the board last week on a temporary basis, has said that it will be officially fired at a special meeting convened for November 17.
De Wet said he had taken the actions against Jonas and the board following information before him on alleged irregularities in the sale of the Mpekweni resort near Port Alfred.
