IN A move to correct the
skills shortage in the freight
industry, the Association for
Operations Management in
Southern Africa (Sapics) has
built up a growing network
of authorised education
providers (AEPs).
According to information
released to FTW by the
association’s Jenny Froome,
this is widely recognised
as one of the biggest
challenges facing the supply
chain sector.
“We are playing a
significant role in addressing
the skills deficit, and now
offer industry-specific
education programmes
throughout SA – in a
network of 11 AEPs in
KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng,
Western Cape, and Eastern
Cape and as far afield
as Kenya, Nigeria and
Tanzania.”
Sapics is the SA
custodian of two
internationally accredited
certification programmes
– certified production and
inventory management
(CPIM) and the newlylaunched
certified supply
chain professional (CSCP).
The 30th annual Sapics
conference and exhibition is
to be held at Sun City from
June 29 to July 2, 2008.
