COST CONSTRAINTS in the logistics industry demand that warehousing applications are affordable and that software charges are reasonable, says Mario Acosta Alarcon, Compu-Clearing's technical director. This was one of the underlying factors when Compu-Clearing designed its Stash system for third party warehousing. Suitable for small, medium and large warehouses, it includes the latest technology in terms of software and hardware at a reasonable price, he said. "It can be installed in any network without too many overhead costs in terms of hardware investment and will run on any windows PC with minimum or little memory and disk requirements. It uses the SQL server as its data base," he added. The package includes three modules - barcoding, imaging and accounting interface systems. The software has been used in South Africa for the past two years by the likes of 3Logix, Sky Services, Rennies Terminal Services and Project Freight. The company recently scored an additional coup when the system was adopted in Singapore by, amongst others, BDP Asia Pacific which handles the shipments of Dow Chemicals and other companies throughout the country. "It is a big achievement because the system is wholly South African-designed and developed and we were able to export it in a very competitive market," said Alarcon. Rent charges, he says, are 'quite affordable'. "The package adds value for customers in that it improves stock control, makes the production of inventory relating to storage and handling charges faster, and automates operations through barcoding and scanning. It integrates with freight forwarding and customs clearance and with the most common accounting systems," he said. Compu-Clearing intends launching the package in other countries in Asia and Latin America. "The product will be continuously enhanced to incorporate any additional customer requests," said Alarcon.
