SPOORNET'S FREIGHT Protection Policy was launched on April 1, providing clients with what it terms a cost-efficient, risk financing vehicle, which has been underwritten by SAIA (SA Insurance Association) members.
The scheme, which was detailed in full in the FTW issue of February 27 this year, was officially presented to existing and prospective Spoornet clients on a one-to-one basis last week.
Spoornet has linked with insurance brokers Price Forbes with the railways moving away from its previous 'limited liability' to an 'insurance-related' system. It maintains that as a result of being able to give blanket coverage on all consignments insured with them, Spoornet is now to speed up claims to the extent that these will take no longer than a month to process.
Spoornet says the new facility enables customers to choose from a menu of freight protection alternatives which avoid duplication of insurance cover, providing a concept of one-risk, one-premium.
