Spoornet - Is there anybody home?

JOY ORLEK THERE APPEARS to be a communication gap between Spoornetfs growth aspirations and the operational realities of the organisation. Last week Transnet CEO Maria Ramos said the rail utility would more than double its business in the next five years as it pushed for as much as a quarter of the general freight business in the country. This week we received the following email from Robbie Forbes of Transit Freight Coordinators: gOur company currently has approximately 24 empty 12m containers that must be returned to Durban within the following four days. gOur consistent attempts to obtain quotations from the Spoornet numbers in our possession have met with either unanswered ringing of phones or we have been referred on to other people or divisions who have no idea of whom we should be speaking to. gMay we therefore recommend that Spoornet clearly advertises its contact numbers for the various services they claim to offer as private enterprise cannot comply with shipping time schedules whilst spending their time fruitlessly on unanswered telephone calls.h œ FTW forwarded the email to the relevant Spoornet staff who made contact immediately.
