Weekly Mombasa service
Terry Hutson
IN A revision of its local activities Kenyan shipping line Spanfreight Shipping has appointed Seaclad Maritime as its new South African agent with immediate effect, replacing previous agent Diamond Shipping.
The Mombasa - based line operates a weekly container and reefer container service between Cape Town and Durban to Mombasa. Spanfreight operates its own vessels with a regular feeder service from the Kenyan port into a number of smaller East African and Indian Ocean Island ports, including Pemba and Nacala. The line also operates directly to the Comores, where Spanfreight's diminutive freighter First Carrier (1749 gt) is one of the few cargo ships able to go alongside in the port of Moroni as opposed to discharging outside in the roadstead.
We're obviously quite delighted to take Spanfreight into our portfolio, as it gives us an added extension into East Africa and the Comores, Terry Smith of Seaclad told FTW this week.
