THIS WEEK saw the launch by South Bay Line in association with Xpress Container Line, both of Singapore, of a fortnightly container service between South Africa and the Far East .
The Cambodia Star, which sailed from Colombo on May 16 to arrive in Durban on June 3, inaugurated the service.
Local agents Pegasus Shipping have confirmed that the line will offer two sailings a month, calling Neva Shiva, Colombo, Port Louis, Durban, Port Louis, Neva Shiva and Colombo.
Cargo destined to/from Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam will be transhipped at Colombo.
South Bay Line is a new company which was formed following the demise of Nantai Line, but Pegasus Shipping has made it clear that the new service is not a Nantai dummy company.
While some of the Nantai staff have moved across to the new company, that's where the ties with Nantai end, a spokesman told FTW.
The fully containerised service will be upgraded to a weekly frequency as early as possible, he added.
