KEVIN MAYHEW
FORMER deputy-director of the Department of Transport (DOT), Sipho Khumalo, 36, takes over as chief executive officer of the Road Freight Association (RFA) this week following the resignation of Herman Lemmer in July.
Khumalo assumes the key position after three years as deputy director where his focus was regulation of all modes of transport as well as issues relating to safety of mainly land based transport - although he had significant oversight of both the South African Maritime Safety Agency (SAMSA) and the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) with regards to safety until a year ago as well.
Born in Belfast, Mpumalanga, he completed his tertiary education in management to masters level at Wits where he has also lectured. Apart from his employment with the DOT, he was also involved in traffic management research for the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).
