CURRENT GRAIN statistics indicate that maize transportation - traditionally more a staple for rail carriage - is swinging towards road freight in greater volumes.
At present about 50% of grain transported to mills is by road, according to TransAfrica Logistics’ managing director Saul Resnick.
A division of the JSE-listed Super Group, TAL is a leading supplier of integrated bulk freight solutions throughout southern Africa.
“The market is still positive, volumes are increasing and Spoornet can overcome its present problems - in fact the rail giant’s locomotive shortage already appears to be easing,” says Resnick.
Referring to the operations of TAL, he said it had employed representatives to look after its interests throughout southern Africa. These agents adopt a hands-on approach and are able to monitor each and every truck or tanker.
