EIGHT SOUTHERN African countries have voted in favour of developing a single visa system by 2008. The countries that will form part of the single visa zone include South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Namibia, Mozambique and Botswana. The plan for the Univisa, as it will be called, was revealed at a meeting of regional tourism ministers in Johannesburg on June 13. The single visa would include the development of a standardised visa application form and SADC stamp, a SADC database and the alignment of regional immigration regulations, according to sister Now Media publication TNN.
