Ships more culpable in global emissions

WH ILE AIRFREIGHT has attracted its fair share of flak in the ongoing global emissions battle, a recent report prepared by Intertanko, which represents the majority of the world’s tanker operators, reports that global emissions from shipping are twice the level of aviation. The report, according to an article by BBC News, points out that growth in global trade combined with ships burning more fuel to speed up freight delivery has contributed to the increase. This is in contrast to previous International Maritime Organisation estimates that suggested levels were comparable with those of planes.
