SECURITY 108 – the
legislation that demands
a full screening of all
airfreight export cargo – is
a step nearer finalisation,
according to Bob Garbett,
president of the Business
Aviation Association of
Southern Africa (Baasa).
After a meeting
last week of the Civil
Aviation Regulations
Committee (CARcom) task
force – which has been
working on the technical
standards relating to
the implementation of
Security 108 – it was
decided that a special
meeting be diarised for
May 21.
“Hopefully,” said
Garbett, “the draft
regulations will be
finalised at this meeting,
and released for the
statutory 30-days of public
comment. After this, it
will be published in the
Government Gazette.”
