IMPORTERS WHO fail to check seals before accepting full container loads (FCLs) leave themselves open when it comes to insurance claims.
This is the word of warning from Safcor which advises importers to check seals carefully before issuing a receipt for cargo.
Seals should be intact and their numbers should correspond to those shown on the bills of lading, a spokesman explains.
Importers are urged to contact their freight agents for guidance should there be any discrepancy, in which case shipping line representatives may be called upon to witness the opening of the container.
Failure to check seals prior to acceptance and to report this prior to unpack, prejudices the importer, and could lead to the repudiation of insurance claims, the spokesman said.
