Anna Cox SAFMARINE COMPUTER Services (SCS) is expanding its scope of operations with various acquisitions and its customer base in a drive to become a leading IT business solutions provider. SCS has acquired a 51% share of Knowledge Dimension, a knowledge management specialist. This is the first in a series of acquisitions as part of its planned expansion locally and internationally. Knowledge Dimension, whose sole focus is knowledge management, has conducted an intensive two-year research and development project to develop a framework methodology and tool set known as K-Dimension, which facilitates virtual collaboration and building up a culture of knowledge-sharing within an organisation. "SCS has ambitious plans for expanding its customer base, not only within the AP Moller Group, shareholder of SCS parent Safmarine, Maersk Sealand and SCS, but also outside the group both locally as well as in Europe where we already have a beachhead. To this end we have fully embraced the IBM e-business strategy, including knowledge management, messaging and collaboration and e-learning," said SCS managing director, Paul Vaughan.
