‘Expect more inspections’ WHILE THE “customs compliance campaign” initiated by SA Revenue Services (SARS) earlier this year has nabbed a number of fraudsters and their accomplices, the authorities are taking the campaign up a gear or two with a host of new faces being added to their compliance unit, according to customs specialists, Deloittes. SARS has advertised 30 positions for this unit, they told FTW, including management positions and investigators. “Some of the positions available include legal support and legal advisers,” Deloittes said. And the consultants warned that this added more urgency for everyone to ensure that their own compliance was up to speed. “With these developments in mind, more inspections can be expected from SARS.”
