AFTER 25 years with Safmarine, 14 as media manager, Richard Warnes has chosen to put down his Safmarine pen at the end of January 2003. He brought to the position a unique blend of diverse qualities seldom found in a single individual. A supreme diplomat with a highly developed sense of fair play, he combined an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the industry with articulate verbal and writing skills. His professional approach has gained him the respect of the media world-wide and has been instrumental in elevating the image of Safmarine during a period of dynamic change. Debbie Owen, currently the editor of the Safmarine publication “Navigator” and also the author of a number of topical Safmarine brochures, will assume his responsibilities. For the immediate future, Warnes will spend time with his family in Vancouver, Canada and will travel South Africa with his wife Hazel.
