SAFMARINE HAS purchased copies of the book written by one-legged Comrades Marathon runner Chris Moon to be placed in the library of each of its owned ships throughout the world.
Moon, whose right leg was blown off at the knee in a Mozambique landmine explosion, didn't complete the 90km race in the stipulated 11 hours, he has become one of the most prominent figures in South African long distance running as a result of his brave effort.
Safmarine identifies with your continuing dedication to help disadvantaged communities, SCL's media liaison manager Richard Warnes told Moon at a Cape Town Press Club luncheon last week.
In addition he was made an offer of a free cruise back home to the UK by the shipping line.
Moon's book, One Step Beyond', describes his life as an athlete, then his traumatic experience in the landmine explosion which also ripped off his left hand, and his subsequent decision to assist disadvantaged people wherever possible.
