The queue of trucks south of the Chirundu border into Zambia stretched for 10 kilometres into Zimbabwe earlier this afternoon as no resolution to the congestion and delays experienced at that border seemed forthcoming.

This is according to news received from Transist, the transit assistance service run by the Federation of East and Southern African Road Transport Associations (Fesarta).

It is likely that the slow processing of transporters going north is still because of Customs on the Zim side clamping down on smuggling (see yesterday's related report: https://www.freightnews.co.za/article/trucks-held-back-chirundu-customs-clamps-down-smuggling).

The information about trucks queueing into Zim was passed on by an official from the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority.

Fesarta CE Mike Fitzmaurice pledged to investigate what was causing the congestion.

Any information with regard to the situation on SADC border posts can be sent to Eugene Goddard, editor of Freight News, at: eugeneg@nowmedia.co.za
